The finding in one frame. Ταύτης δὲ τῆς πραγματείας οὐ τὸ μὲν ἦν τὸ δ᾽ οὐκ ἦν προεξειργασμένον, ἀλλ᾽ οὐδὲν παντελῶς ὑπῆρχεν (SE 183b34–36). A short note on this sentence — only Aristotle's words on the surface, every claim a line reference — was submitted in eleven versions, with four sister papers, to unprimed, signed-out instances of ChatGPT and Perplexity acting as blind referees. Twenty reports. The object varied along every axis: no thesis, the sentence as thesis, its negation as thesis, Socrates' priority left open, the reviewers' own formulations adopted verbatim. The reports did not vary. Each inserted a qualifier ("systematic" ×6, "developed" ×4, "transmissible" ×3); when the quantifier and its domain were closed, the qualifier reappeared as a boundary of persons, supported by a chronology the passage does not contain ("plainly," "of course, historically"). The terminal report, reached by full compliance, offered as the paper's "memorable governing phrase" a sentence — Aristotle denies not antecedents, but pre-elaboration — that is the configuration the sentence denies, τὸ μὲν ἦν τὸ δ᾽ οὐκ ἦν, with οὐ removed, and called the sentence as written "crude."

What the paper establishes. Reception-layer invariance: constancy of referee output under variation of the object. The migration of the qualifier from quantifier to domain to persons to external chronology as each slot is closed. The mechanism in the treatise's own terms — SE 5 (πῂ / ἁπλῶς), 8, 16 (the paralogism self-administered and unperceived), 18 (solution by division). Two invariances distinguished: output constant under object variation measures the reviewer; two independent runs identical on a fixed object measures the paper's control of the surface.

Provenance erasure, at the particle. The deleted οὐ is a provenance claim: the chapter defines "prior work" as παρ᾽ ἑτέρων, from others (183b17). The sentence with οὐ says the inquiry received nothing from others; without it, some of it was received. What the reception restores, at the cost of the particle, is provenance-from-others. Constitutive-source erasure and the insertion of distributed antecedents are one operation seen from the two sides of a negation. The Provenance Erasure Rate, applied here to the sentence where the count of makers is decided, reads one particle.

The limit, stated. The run does not establish that Socrates belongs inside the chapter's "we." It establishes that every tested route for excluding him required a premise not supplied by the passage, and that the terminal premise was chronological maker-separation.
